With such a high ratio of teachers to children—and our own van, we are often able to make spontaneous trips out into the local community to follow up with particular interests from the children or extend learning related to projects and learning threads.
For example, when learning about Tangaroa (the guardian of the sea), the children decided to have a shared Kai (food) evening celebration at Kinderen with their families. They headed off to the local seafood shop to find something yummy to cook!
In the winter we often head up our own Mountain, Taranaki, to enjoy the experience of snow and inspect the different types of plants found at that altitude.
We also have the beautiful Pukekura park not far from our centres that offers many different types of trees, plants and birds to see, smell and hear.
